Jeremy C. Young
Jeremy C. Young is an assistant professor of history and director of the Institute of Politics and Public Affairs at Dixie State University. A historian of American political culture, social movements, and emotional experience, he is the author of The Age of Charisma: Leaders, Followers, and Emotions in American Society, 1870-1940 (Cambridge University Press, 2017). His commentary on American politics has appeared in numerous publications including the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Sun-Times, and the Seattle Times, and he has been interviewed in Newsweek, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and on NPR’s The Takeaway. He earned his Ph.D. in U.S. history from Indiana University in 2013. He lives in St. George, Utah, with his wife, Chelsea McCracken, an assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies at DSU.
Richard Cracroft is a senior information systems and analytics major from Las Vegas, Nevada. He has a passion for history, foreign policy, healthcare policy, and workers’ rights. He hopes that through his advocacy more people engage with their governments, make their opinions known to their legislators, and become engaged in their local lawmaking processes. He/Him.
Makayla Ruffing-Teel is a sophomore marketing major (entrepreneurship emphasis) from Idyllwild, California. As an Event Coordinator, Makayla focuses on finding speakers willing to give an overview about the topic at hand. She has also worked with the Institute of Politics team to create a new event called Taco-Bout It in which students are able to discuss their opinions with other students and faculty. She believes it is important for students to have the opportunity to learn about the politics that affect them and then have the opportunity to form opinions and discuss them with others. Through her advocacy for these events, she hopes to get more students involved in politics in the hope that they will become more engaged in the lawmaking process.
Caelan Williams is a junior accounting major from St. George, Utah. He thoroughly enjoys physical activity and playing with Legos. Caelan enjoys working with the IOP team in creating and running events that appeal to the students of Dixie State University.
Christina Peries is a junior history major from Los Angeles, California. She loves dad jokes, playing cello, swimming, and reading. She enjoys creating content, media, and marketing campaigns for IOP and collaborating with her IOP peers. Christina is passionate about the environment, fashion, and history, and plans on becoming an attorney after graduating from Dixie State University.
Julia Martin is a junior technical and professional writing major from Preston, Idaho. She is passionate about women’s health, affordable housing, and LGBTQ+ issues. She plans to study law in a master’s program after she graduates from DSU.
